NEF to PSD is the search people type when they already know the two formats and just want the file to open in the next app. NEF is Nikon RAW. Develop it in NX Studio or Lightroom before a web convert.

PSD is Photoshop’s layered file. Browsers cannot write layers, so IMG 4 FIX flattens to PNG. On this page the conversion runs in your browser: the original is drawn, then written as PNG (because this browser cannot write PSD). Nothing is uploaded to IMG4FIX for that encode.

Use it when you need PSD workflows on a desktop app. If you also have a kilobyte cap, convert first, then open a compress-to-size tool so you do not encode twice blindly.

What is NEF to PSD?

It is a one-way format change: pixels (or a decoded preview) in NEF, bytes out as PSD. It is not a new photo, not a compression preset by itself, and not a cloud “optimizer” that keeps a copy of your file.

The useful difference is usually extension plus encoder: JPEG is lossy, PNG is lossless with optional transparency, WebP is a web codec, PDF is a one-page wrapper around a JPEG.

ID scans, family albums, and unreleased product shots should not sit on a random converter’s disk. Local encode trades a little compression efficiency for that boundary.

NEF is Nikon RAW. Develop it in NX Studio or Lightroom before a web convert. Camera RAW is a sensor dump plus a recipe, not a finished picture. Lightroom, NX Studio, or the camera maker’s app demosaics it. This page cannot invent that develop pipeline in Canvas.

If the preview fails, export a high-quality JPEG or TIFF from your RAW software, then use IMG4FIX convert tools for the last mile (WebP, PDF, a kilobyte cap).

What you actually download instead of PSD

Browsers cannot author a valid PSD file (layers, PostScript, or Office XML). A fake header would break Photoshop or Word. IMG4FIX flattens pixels to PNG so you still leave with something you can open.

If you truly need PSD, finish in the desktop app that owns that format. Use this page only when a flattened still is enough.
