What is PSD to GIF?

It is a one-way format change: pixels (or a decoded preview) in PSD, bytes out as GIF. It is not a new photo, not a compression preset by itself, and not a cloud “optimizer” that keeps a copy of your file.

The useful difference is usually extension plus encoder: JPEG is lossy, PNG is lossless with optional transparency, WebP is a web codec, PDF is a one-page wrapper around a JPEG.

Canvas does not encode animated GIF palettes the way Photoshop does. You get a single frame. Keep the original if motion matters; use JPG or PNG if you only needed a still for a form.
