This page builds a one-page PDF and shrinks the JPEG inside until the whole file is under 1 MB. Extra PDF headers use a little room, so the photo is aimed slightly below the cap.

Files stay in this browser tab. A 24 MP phone dump cannot become 5 KB without looking harsh — crop or resize the subject first when the cap is that small.

It changes file size, not print centimeters. Pixels may drop if quality alone cannot hit the cap. That is different from “resize to 600×600,” which is a pixel box regardless of kilobytes.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1 MB a maximum or an exact size?

A maximum. The encoder stops at or under the cap. Padding a file up to an exact byte count is a different tool (increase size in KB).

Will faces still be recognizable?

At 1 MB, maybe not if the original is a full-resolution camera file. Crop to the head and shoulders first for ID-style photos.

Does this upload the photo?

No. Encoding is local.

Is the PDF searchable text?

No. It is a photo wrapped as a page, not an OCR document.

Why did my file stay larger than 1 MB?

Extremely simple graphics sometimes bottom out above a tiny cap, or the device ran out of downscale steps. Try a smaller crop.
